I am so excited about this coming year at St. James Preschool! I almost feel silly when I think about how excited I am. What a difference a year makes! This time last summer, I was anxious and uncertain of what the future held for my beloved Preschool. I was worried about who we would find to lead us as our Director and what the inevitable changes that come with such a process might mean for St. James. But after a year of transition and hard work, Susan Viers is solidly at the helm as our Director, our sweet Preschool is doing very well and we are in the process of making updates and changes that will ensure that it’s a loving place to learn for generations of children to come.
As our students and their families return to the Preschool hallways in September, we will see lots of the familiar that we love, along with a sprinkling of new and exciting additions. Bright, new paint in the hallways, an exciting new website with up-to-date information and tools for our families, a new “edible classroom” in the garden, some of our amazing “old” teachers teaching in new classrooms, and new teachers dotted here and there to give us fresh ideas and renewed energy—all coming together to create a buzz of excitement as we kick off the 2016/17 school year. I truly just can’t wait!
But as I think about the excitement of the new school year, I also think about all the hard work that goes into making it happen. Susan and her team will have been diligently planning for weeks before the first child enters the door. And members of our Preschool Board will have also been working hours on end on various projects and tasks to help make all that happens at St. James possible. But it doesn’t stop with our staff and Board members. There are a myriad of opportunities for our families to get involved and contribute in meaningful ways at St. James. No talent is too small or hour too short! If you have time and skills that you can share, please step up! St. James Preschool is built on the talents and energies of more than four decades of parents who have come before and given so much. How will you get involved? Serve as a room parent; help with the Book Fair; get involved with the planning of our 2017 Auction; support the Parent’s Club Drive; make goodies for our teachers; offer to help in the office; think about serving on the Board next year—just to name a few. Whatever it is, just get involved in some big or little way! Be a part of this wonderful and amazing Preschool that we all love so much!
This year is my swan song at St. James. Carson will be graduating and I can assure you there will be no bonus baby this time bringing me back for another lap! It’s a little bittersweet, but it’s mostly sweet. I am so proud to have been a part of this amazing preschool for the better part of 11 years, so blessed that all three of my children had the privilege of attending St. James, and so excited for one last year to contribute and be a part of the exciting changes that are going to lead us into the next era. It’s a loving place to learn; it’s a loving place just to be a part of.
Enjoy the last few weeks of summer. I look forward to seeing you all at Orientation on August 30th!
